Well Tended is a horticultural practice, not a garden maintenance company. We work exclusively in Melbourne's inner east, exclusively with qualified horticulturists, and exclusively on a recurring basis. This page explains how the practice is set up and why.
Built around knowing the garden.
Most maintenance services rotate staff across many gardens. The faces change, the work shrinks to a generic checklist, and small problems are missed because no one is watching the same plants over time.
Well Tended is built the opposite way. One horticulturist per garden, for as long as you're a client. Same person, every visit. They learn your camellias' habits, your hedge's lines, where the sun falls in summer and which beds dry out fastest. That knowledge is the service.
A relationship with the garden, not a roster.
Three principles, applied without exception.
These aren't aspirations. They define what we will and won't do.
Qualified only.
Every member of the team holds a formal qualification in horticulture, typically a Certificate III or IV from Burnley College or Melbourne Polytechnic. We don't employ people on the basis of experience alone. The qualification matters because the work requires knowing why, not just how.
No subcontractors.
Every visit is carried out by a Well Tended horticulturist. We do not subcontract. We do not pass work to mates. We do not let someone else show up on our behalf. The consistency of the person doing the work is the work.
Recurring only.
We don't take one-off tidy-ups, mow-and-go jobs or quick fixes for someone else's garden. Our model is built around ongoing relationships with gardens we get to know over time. The exceptions are pre-sale preparation and new-property assessments, both of which often lead to ongoing work.
Trained horticulturists, not casual labour.
Every Well Tended horticulturist holds a recognised horticultural qualification. We hire from established Australian institutions and we hire for the long term. The team is small by design: keeping it small means we can maintain the standard.
